2025 Knitting Plans: Knitting, Sewing, and More!
Hello my fellow fiber enthusiast friends! Can you believe it’s already 2025? Time feels like it’s flying by, and as I look ahead, I’m so excited to share my plans for the coming year. Whether you’re here for knitting, sewing, or general fiber arts inspiration, I’ve got plenty to chat about. Grab your favorite drink and let’s dive into my project lineup for the new year
Reflecting on 2024: Lessons and Wins
2024 was a wonderful year, full of creativity and community. One of my biggest wins was keeping a Maker’s Notebook to chronicle all my projects. This brilliant tool helped me stay organized and celebrate my progress, thanks to my friend Sophia from Making Treasures. https://makingtreasures.com/products/the-makers-notebook I loved it so much that I picked up a new one in black for 2025. Keeping track of my cast-ons and bind-offs is so rewarding, and I’m excited to fill up another notebook this year.
Upcoming Knitalongs (KALs)
Mosaic Mayhem Wrap-Up
The Mosaic Mayhem KAL, which ran from September through December 2024, was such a joy! It focused on mosaic slip-stitch patterns, and while finishing wasn’t required, participation alone entered you for prizes. This year, winners will receive gift cards or a yarn package, with announcements coming soon on Instagram and Ravelry. Thank you to everyone who joined—it was such a fun way to celebrate mosaic knitting.
Stornoway Sweater KAL
Starting January 15th, the Stornoway Sweater KAL is something I’m thrilled about. Co-hosted with Rachel and Jessica from Those Twins Who Knit, we’re knitting the Stornoway Sweater by Cheryl of Coco Amour Knits. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/stornoway-sweater
This classic worsted-weight design features clean lines, drop shoulders, and lovely textures. I’ve chosen Sewrella Yarn’s Classic Worsted Base in BreckenRidge and Aprés ski —two gorgeous shades from their winter palette. https://sewrellayarn.com?sca_ref=5939400.EyQFq7OpTn
Whether you’re using stash yarn or treating yourself to something new, we’d love for you to join! WIPs are welcome, and you can share your progress on Instagram with #StornowaySweaterSquad
Current Knitting Projects
Nordic Bloom Vest
One of my favorite carryover projects is the Nordic Bloom Vest from the Nordic Knits special edition of Laine Magazine. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/nordic-bloom-vest Designed by Caitlin Hunter, this gorgeous vest features colorwork and is steeked for added ease. I’m using Rauma Vams, a yarn I’ve been eager to try. It’s slightly rustic but surprisingly soft after handling it, and I’m excited to see how it feels post-blocking.
Test Knit: Brooklyn Tweed Shelter Cardigan
I’m currently test-knitting a cardigan for Alicia Plummer using Brooklyn Tweed Shelter in Cast Iron, a dark gray with stunning speckles. Knitting with Shelter is always a pleasure—it’s light, warm, and so rewarding to work with. My knitting friend Jillena and I even chose matching buttons for our cardigans, adding a fun collaborative touch to this project.
Ingrid Sweater Baby
As a gift for a dear friend expecting her first baby, I’m knitting the Ingrid Sweater Baby by PetiteKnit. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ingrid-sweater-baby Using leftover Sandnes Garn Double Sunday yarn in Marzipan, this lightweight sweater will be perfect for cooler Florida days or even just for adorable photos.
Sweaters for the Family
Ingrid Sweater Man
I started knitting the Porter Cardigan for my husband last year but found it too overwhelming with my busy schedule. Instead, I’m focusing on the Ingrid Sweater Man by PetiteKnit for him. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ingrid-sweater-man I’ve chosen Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok Worsted in Driftwood, a soft and affordable Peruvian wool. My goal is to finish this by next winter—plenty of time to work on it steadily.
Dagmar Jacket
Another exciting project is the Dagmar Jacket by PetiteKnit, a joint knit with Megha from Skeins of Dreams. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/dagmar-jacket We’re using Gilliatt yarn, which is soft, springy, and delightful to work with. This background project will likely take most of the year, and that’s okay—slow knitting is often the most rewarding!
Accessories and Small Projects
Quilty Cabin Socks
These cozy socks are knit with Woollen Twine Ovis Sock Yarn, a delightful 50/50 blend of Cheviot and Jacob wool. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/quilty-cabin-socks While nylon-free sock yarns make me skeptical about durability, this yarn is so lovely to work with that I don’t mind mending holes if needed. I’m excited to cast these on soon.
Weekend Hat
This hat by Hiromi Nagasawa is another fun project I’m working on. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/weekend-hat-4 Knit with Sandnes Garn Double Sunday in a vibrant lipstick red, it features cables and a folded brim for a timeless look. This yarn is perfect for cables—soft, smooth, and a joy to knit.
Plumpy Shawl
The Plumpy Shawl by Andrea Mowry is on my dream project list. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/plumpy I’ve chosen three sport-weight alpaca yarns in neutral shades (Biscuits, Button, and Pigeon Milk) from Coast to Coast Yarn Co.. This shawl will be a versatile piece for both winter and spring.
Olympia Sweater
From the book Memory Lane by Claudia Quintanilla, the Olympia Sweater is a special-occasion piece. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/olympia-14 I’m substituting mohair with a Suri alpaca-silk blend for the delicate fabric and adding a velvet ribbon tie at the back for an elegant touch.
Sewing Plans
This year, I’m diving into sewing with plans for cozy, practical pieces:
- Pomona Pants: Using flannel fabric from Blackbird Fabrics in the Pear and Shale colorway, these cropped pants will be perfect for lounging or layering.
- Corduroy Overalls or Dress: I have a beautiful green fine-wale corduroy fabric that I’m debating turning into either overalls or a Hinterland Dress. Either way, it’ll be a warm, stylish winter staple.
