Hello friends!

I am so excited to finally kick off the Fish Girl Fall Makealong. Summer may be wrapping up, but we’re carrying that whole fishy, fisherman-core vibe straight into fall. Think cozy knits, playful colorwork, textured fisherman sweaters, fishy motifs, sewing projects, beadwork, even painting a fish if you feel inspired. Basically, if it’s creative and a little fish-themed (or fisherman-core inspired), it counts! 🐟✨

Dates:
📅 September 1st – December 21st (first day of winter)
That gives everyone plenty of time to cast on something new or finish up a WIP you’ve already got swimming around.

What’s included:

  • 🧶 Knitting (fish motifs, fisherman’s rib, cables, cozy textures)

  • 🪡 Sewing (like the Mad Made Swim Along bag or a fishy drawstring pouch)

  • 🎨 Beading, crochet, weaving, painting—you name it!

  • Anything else that feels fun, creative, and a little bit fishy.

How to participate:

  • Share your project ideas and WIPs right here in this thread so everyone can be inspired.

  • Post progress pics along the way, half the fun is seeing each other’s projects grow.

  • Finished objects? Show them off with pride, we’ll all be cheering you on!

  • Use the hashtag #FishGirlFallMAL if you’re posting on Instagram too.

Prizes & Fun Extras:
Ashley (Designed by SewandSew) and I will both be joining in with lots of projects, and we’ll also have some special stitch markers and goodies donated by makers to give away during the MAL.

So tell us, what’s on your needles, hooks, sewing tables, or beading trays for Fish Girl Fall? Drop your plans below, even if you’re just brainstorming, so we can get a running list of ideas for everyone to draw from. Also, pictures, pictures, pictures!

Can’t wait to see what you all come up with, by winter, we’ll all have the coziest fishy wardrobes and projects to show off.

Don’t be koi… jump right in! 🐠💙

Hi All,

I was originally going to make my Wellerman Shawl wip my first contribution to Fish Girl Fall - but I was too productive and finished a day too soon! Luckily I have a fisherman’s raglan wip on the sidelines, a yet to be cast on dagmar jacket, and my eyes on a possible salty days sweater. So much to make, so little time.

Catch you later!

Fish girl fall is the aesthetic I didn’t know I desperately needed !
A reversible Musselburgh is going to be my route of choice.
Isager yarn in Navy blue is giving high sea vibes while the rust side is perfect for fly fishing on the lake in autumn !

Thank you for hosting such a lovely themed MAL !

I made a fun plover pouch with some sardine fabric! It has been on my list to make all summer, I learned about the MAL and had to make it! I plan on starting a pair of nest socks too 🙂

Hi 🙂

I found you page, so I can join the knit along, yay!

I am knitting fishy socks for my little American nephew, who loves fishing more than anything else! I fished with him last summer at Chincoteague, and we had so much fun! I want to make him a little fish stuffy and a fish bag too, for Xmas. Hope I finish in time, postage from Denmark is kind of slow and the mini needles I bought for the project seem to be putring strain on my elbow....  such a drag.

Thank you for co-hosting this MAL, Kaci! Perfect timing as my daughter asked for a Halibut Sweater for her November birthday. I finished it early and sent it to her — it happened to be delivered while we were FaceTiming, so I got to watch her open it and try it on 😀 She loves it! I’m so glad

Hi! I’m so excited to share my Ingrid sweater on this make along. I absolutely love it and cannot put it down! I’m not quite half done with the body, but I’m so excited to wear it that I’m sure I’ll be able to wear it this winter! —Kathy

My friend fell in love with a little stuffed lobster at Flock this year, so I tracked down the pattern and made her one for Christmas. I couldn't resist doing a little Kintra action on the sweater! My hands may never forgive me for all of the little tiny sleeves though.
