Sew Liberated Songbird Skirt & Tablecloth Shirt Projects
Hello everyone, and welcome to a slice of my life here in the sunny, albeit sweltering, foothills of the Ozarks! I’m Kaci, and if you have a penchant for knitting, sewing, spinning, or just about any fiber art, you’ve come to the right place. Today, I’m excited to share not just my projects but also snippets of life on our small farm where we dabble in beekeeping and enjoy the great outdoor
Summer Updates: Knitting, Sewing, and Farm Life
June is bustling with activity—garden tending, hay season, and, of course, lots of crafting. The first day of summer has come and gone, bringing with it a heatwave that makes me half-jokingly consider relocating to cooler climates. Amid this heat, my knitting projects have somewhat stalled, but I’ve turned my focus to sewing, which offers quicker gratification.
I’ve been working on a few sewing projects, primarily using linen, which is absolutely divine during our hot Arkansas summers.
I’ve crafted several pieces that are perfect for our weather here—airy and comfortable. It’s amazing how sewing can satisfy the urge to create when knitting feels too heavy for the hands.
I was so excited to be able to preview sew the new Songbird set from SewLiberated. A perfect pattern for an adventurous beginner, this skirt checks all the boxes for a a fun summer sewing project:
A Dive into the Colorful World of Knitting
Despite the slow knitting progress, I’m thrilled about a blanket project I’ve started using vibrant yarns from Ruby and Roses. The ‘Traveler’s Blanket’ I’m working on is soon to be a kaleidoscope of joy with hues that pop and spark creativity. I’m using a mix of colors like Meadow Sweet and Troika paired with a delightful mini bundle called ‘Happy Place’. It’s a serotonin booster in the form of a blanket! When I told Addy of Ruby and Roses I would be knitting her blanket pattern she kindly offered a discount to any of you that would like to as well. Spinning Tales and Future Plans
With ‘Tour de Fleece’ around the corner, I’m gearing up to spin more of my ‘Ozark Dreaming’ colorway by Primrose Yarn Co. This event is a wonderful time to connect with other spinners and perhaps tackle some fiber projects that have been on my mind. I have also started a new spin with an exciting exclusive colorway I can’t wait to share! (Keep an eye on my instagram to get some sneak peeks)
Creative Inspirations and Community Learning
Recently, I’ve found tremendous value in online classes, especially on Skillshare where I brushed up on sewing basics. The lessons have improved my technique significantly—something I can see in the clean seams and better finishes of my garments. Here is the class I I have been using and The first 500 people to use my link https://skl.sh/youngfolkknits06241 will get a 1-month free trial of Skillshare premium!
Embracing the Sewing Surge
My latest sewing fixation? Turning vintage embroidered tablecloths into wearable art. It’s a challenging but exciting venture, transforming these precious fabrics into something both new and nostalgic. Plus, tackling these projects has been a fantastic way to hone my skills and perhaps prepare for more intricate designs.
And here is a look at my tablecloth shirt!
Knits and Bits
While my knitting pace has slowed, I’m not letting it dampen my spirits. I’m focusing on enjoying the process and the lovely community around it. Even if I’m not knitting, I’m certainly thinking about knitting!

Looking lovely! I am in Scotland so not as hot! We have a new series of the Great British Sewing Bee and they made tops from embroidered tablecloths!
Thank you Jacqueline! I love the look of the embroidered tablecloths! Are you planning on making one?
