Sewing & Knitting an Entire Outfit
Hey everyone! Welcome to a cozy corner of the internet where creativity meets thread and yarn. Today, I want to share my latest adventure in making an entire outfit from scratch—yes, you heard that right! We’re talking about sewing up a storm and knitting some chic accessories to match. So, grab your favorite cup of tea (or coffee!) and let’s dive into this fabric-filled journey.
From Plans to Pants: Sewing a Summer Outfit
It’s the middle of a sweltering July here in Arkansas, where I live with my family on a quaint little farm. Despite the heat setting off alarms on my phone, I’m buzzing with the excitement of crafting an entire outfit. Inspired by a recent sale at Blackbird Fabrics, I snagged some gorgeous sky-blue linen. It’s the perfect medium weight for both spring and summer vibes.
Choosing the Right Patterns
After some past mishaps with sizing (we’ve all been there, haven’t we?), I’ve decided to go for the Chantelle view A pants. This time, I’m choosing my size based on the finished garment measurements rather than the suggested size chart—focusing on the hip measurement to ensure a snug fit with just the right amount of ease. https://sewliberated.com/products/chanterelle-pants-pattern
For the top, I eventually settle on a sleeveless Ashton. It’s perfect for summer and can easily transition into cooler months layered under a cardigan. https://helensclosetpatterns.com/product/ashton-top-pdf-pattern/
The Knitting Mojo
Although the heat has dampened my knitting enthusiasm slightly, the idea of creating a matching knit accessory sparks joy. I’m contemplating a knit cardigan to pair with my outfit. I’ll be browsing Ravelry for some cardigan inspiration and picking out the perfect yarn to complement my new clothes.
A Mishap and a New Machine
Midway through my sewing adventure, my old sewing machine decided to call it quits. But every cloud has a silver lining, right? I found myself at a local sewing machine shop during their moving sale and walked out with a brand new Brother PS700 at half off the MSRP. It’s straightforward, without all the bells and whistles, but exactly what I need.
Final Touches and Future Plans
As I lay out the cut patterns and thread my new sewing machine, I’m already envisioning the finished pieces. The pants high-waisted and flowing, the top fitting just right with darts that add a lovely shape. I’ll be adding a personal touch by adjusting the lengths and ensuring the fit is just as I want—comfortable yet flattering.
Spinning Yarns and Weaving Dreams
To top it all off, I’ve been dabbling in spinning, inspired by a class on Craftsy. I’m spinning up some mustardy gold merino and a luxurious alpaca, camel, and silk blend, aiming for a vibrant contrast in my knit cardigan. The excitement of choosing the right fibers and colors is like painting with wool, and I can’t wait to see how it all turns out. By clicking my link, you can receive a one-year premium

I’m so happy with how my two sewn pieces have come out! I think the fit is just what I need. I did lengthen the pants by about an inch and I simply hemmed the Ashton top instead of adding a bottom band.
