Rhinebeck Sweater 2024: Details and Knitting Journey
Hello, dear readers! Today, I’m thrilled to dive deep into one of my recent projects that’s truly captured my heart—the DRK Framed sweater. Designed for the famous Sheep and Wool Festival in Rhinebeck, New York, this project embodies the spirit of traditional knitting mixed with contemporary flair. Let’s unravel the yarns of this story together!
Starting the Stitch Story
The Rhinebeck sweater is a design by Andrea Mowry, https://www.ravelry.com/projects/YoungFolkKnits/framed known for its detailed colorwork and timeless style. My journey with this sweater started with a test knit opportunity and a bit of a color dilemma. I was excited to test Andrea’s “Framed” pattern, which is an all-over colorwork pattern that really pushes your knitting skills to the next level.
The Color Work Challenge
The real charm of this sweater lies in its color work. The design uses three different colors to create a pattern that’s reminiscent of quilt squares, adding a homey, rustic vibe to the garment. My color choices were aimed at bringing out the vibrancy of the design while maintaining a harmonious balance. The main color was a warm, cinnamon red-brown shade called “Eagle Eye,” which I absolutely adore. The contrast colors added complexity to the pattern, enhancing the quilt-like feel. I used “love me like you used to” in spinsters daughter worsted along with Absolute Zero in Dream state.
Overcoming Obstacles
Knitting this sweater wasn’t without its hurdles. At one point, I ran out of yarn for one of my sleeves—an issue many knitters dread. After a nerve-wracking moment, I managed to secure the extra yarn needed to complete the sleeve. Additionally, the intricacy of the color work meant maintaining a consistent tension throughout, which was crucial for the quilt squares to align perfectly.
Technical Tips for Knitters
For those interested in tackling this pattern, a few tips: pay close attention to color dominance. It’s essential for ensuring the background and dominant colors interact correctly, making the pattern pop. I opted to keep one color dominant throughout, which simplified the process and provided consistency in the finished look.
The Emotional Rollercoaster
Throughout the knitting process, there were moments of doubt—was all this effort worth it? However, seeing the completed sweater was a revelation. What seemed like a challenge gave way to a product that I’m truly proud of. It’s not just a piece of clothing; it’s a testament to the patience and passion that knitting demands.
Styling the Rhinebeck Sweater
Once completed, the challenge shifted to styling this masterpiece. The sweater’s color and pattern make it versatile enough to pair with simple jeans or something more daring like patterned trousers. It’s perfect for autumn gatherings or a casual day out, embodying both comfort and style. So I chose the burnside bins by sewhouse 7 using a mustard grid patterned linen. https://sewhouse7.com/products/burnside-bibs

Reflecting on the Journey
This project was more than just knitting a sweater; it was about pushing my boundaries and expanding my skills in color pairing and outfit planning. The Rhinebeck sweater is now not just a part of my wardrobe, but a cherished memory of the journey I embarked on while creating it.
Immersive Reading: Diving into Mystery and Classic Cinema
When I’m not crafting, I’m often lost in a good book or classic film. Recently, I started reading “Shady Hollow” by Juneau Black, a cozy murder mystery that’s as intriguing as it is charming. This book is the first in a series that promises many evenings of engaging reading. As for films, I’ve been revisiting classics starring Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart. Their on-screen chemistry is timeless, and diving into these old Hollywood films provides a wonderful escape. Whether it’s unraveling a mystery in Shady Hollow or watching a noir classic, these moments of relaxation are precious.

Thanks Kaci for all the great info about the Framed sweater. Would love to knit it but I don’t have alot of experience with colorwork.
Go for it! Colorwork isn’t very hard at all. And by the time you finish the sweater you’ll be a pro.

It’s not too bad! But I completely understand. I probably wouldn’t pick this as a first comorwork project.
