Summer Knits: A week long vlog and giveaway!
Hey y’all, and welcome back to Young Folk Knits! If you’re new here, I’m Kaci, and this channel is all about my love for Fiber Arts. From knitting and sewing to spinning, and even some snippets of life on our small farm in Arkansas. Here, my family and I are beekeepers, gardeners, and animal lovers, all while living in the beautiful foothills of the Ozarks. If that sounds like your kind of content, head over to YouTube and hit that subscribe button so you don’t miss out. Let’s look at summer knits and a week-long vlog of my latest adventures!
Recent Summer Knits Projects and New Beginnings
This week, I’ve been working on a few different projects. I recently finished two test knits: my Colette top and framed sweater. It feels great to have those off my needles! Now, I’m diving into a secret test knit using Knitting for Olive Cotton Merino. This yarn is a fantastic blend of 70% cotton and 30% extra fine merino wool. I’ve rekindled my love for it because it’s perfect for summer knits. https://knittingforolive.com/collections/knitting-for-olive-cottonmerino
I pulled out some cream-colored Cotton Merino and paired it with Knitting for Olive Pure Silk in a coal color. I’m excited to start a black and white striped top, the Farnham Tee by Sophie from The Knit Purl Girl. This combination should work well for year-round wear here in Arkansas. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/farnham-tee
Starting the Farnham Tee
Casting on a new project is always the fun part! I decided to hold two strands of yarn together to create a DK weight fabric. Normally, I knit a size five, but for this project, I’m going up to a size seven to get some positive ease. The shoulder shaping is super fun with short rows creating beautiful straps.
Keeping Organized with My Project Journal
Staying organized is key, so I keep a detailed project journal from Making Treasures. It’s great for tracking my progress and keeping notes on each project. This way, at the end of the year, I can look back and see everything I’ve knitted and plan for future projects.
Finished Colette Top and Upcoming Projects
I’m thrilled to share that I finished my Colette top, a sleeveless design by Sari Nordlund. I used Cozy Posy Yarn Co’s Lush Lino DK, a linen and silk blend, in the storm cloud colorway. The stitch definition with this yarn is stunning. I made a few modifications, opting for folded hems around the armholes instead of double-knit bands, and I’m very pleased with the result.

I also recently discovered Universal Yarn Bamboo Pop during the Arkansas Yarn Crawl. It’s a 50% cotton, 50% bamboo blend with a soft, chenille-like feel. I picked up some in the color Penny and am planning to use it for another Sari Nordlund pattern. I loved it so much that I ordered more online to ensure I have enough for a future pullover project.
Spinning Adventures with the Podcasters Collection
Lately, I’ve been excited about spinning again, especially with the new Podcasters Collection from Yarn Jam. Trisha, the dyer, created a colorway for several fiber arts podcasters, including me! My colorway, YoungFolk Knits, features beautiful greens and a touch of lavender, on her natural Merino Rambouillet base. I plan to spin a three-ply yarn using both the Tweed and plain versions of this base, aiming for a DK weight sweater. https://yarnjam.com
