Sweater Knitting Patterns and Sewing Corduroy Pants
Hey there, fiber arts friends! This week, I’m excited to take you through my latest cozy creations on Young Folk Knits. There’s something about the changing seasons that inspires me to dig into warm, textured fabrics, chunky knits, and even a good mystery audiobook. So, grab your favorite warm beverage, and let’s chat about some fun projects in the works—whether it’s sewing, knitting, or finding comfort in a good story!
Sewing Cozy Corduroy Pants
To kick things off, let’s talk about corduroy. I have a serious love affair with this fabric, especially as we dive into cooler weather. Recently, I cut out a pair of wide-leg Pomona pants in a rich chocolate brown stretch corduroy. The Pomona pattern is such a dream for beginners. https://annaallenclothing.com/products/pomona-pants-shorts (https://annaallenclothing.com/products/pomona-pants-shorts)
With only two leg pieces to cut and a simple foldover waistband, it’s super straightforward, which is a win in my book. These pants are incredibly comfy, and paired with boots, they’re a fall staple! I even added back pockets because, well, every good pair of pants needs them.
I also started on another pair—the Chantrelle pants—in a bright orange lightweight corduroy. https://sewliberated.com/products/chanterelle-pants-pattern?srsltid=AfmBOorw7hNIWeQ3_9DRX7P8ekL254WjQZKtHHmsZp3KMp4fuwIpDZmj This project is extra special since I’m sewing along with some of my fellow makers, like Alicia Edmiston. We’re using the same pattern in different colors, which makes it so fun to see each other’s interpretations.
Knitting My Dreamy Sweaters
Moving on to knitting, I’ve been working on several sweater projects that I’m thrilled to share. Today I’m wearing the beautiful Vildnis Sweater, designed by Lærke of Fiber Tales. https://www.ravelry.com/projects/YoungFolkKnits/vildnis-sweater It’s knit with ampersand fibers and made from a warm, woolly Corriedale yarn. While it has that earthy wool texture, it’s a delight to wear, especially layered over a comfy top. I love how it came out, even though I chose a size that was a bit too roomy. Lesson learned for next time!
And speaking of new projects, I just cast on a Rhinebeck Cardigan as part of the Knit Collage fall knit-along. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/rhinebeck-sweater-4 Knit with their Sister Yarn in oatmeal heather, this bulky, almost roving-like yarn has the softest texture.
I’m knitting the cardigan in garter stitch, which means it’s flat and cozy. With its oversized, drop-shoulder style, it’s perfect for layering on chilly days. I’m even planning to wear it to a 70s-themed party—hello, vintage vibes!
Re-Casting on the Apollonis Pullover
Another work-in-progress is the Apollonis Pullover, part of the “Softly” knit-along that I’m co-hosting with Sari Nordland. #softlykal
The pattern is a gorgeous circular yoke sweater, knit in a looser gauge. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/apollonis I initially started it with a yarn that wasn’t quite right in color or feel, so I decided to switch to a soft, squishy merino yarn by Camellia Fiber co. Now, I’m loving how it’s coming together! The creamy color is just what I envisioned for a dreamy, cozy sweater.
Embracing Audiobook Adventures
While I knit, I love to listen to audiobooks. Right now, I’m hooked on “The Crow Trap” by Ann Cleeves, the first book in her Vera series. Even though I know the gist of the story from watching the show years ago, I’m still enjoying the details and storytelling. I also picked up a lighter cozy mystery called “The Charity Shop Detective Agency,” which is the perfect antidote to the season’s stresses. It’s a cute, feel-good read, ideal for those moments when you need something warm and uplifting.
Managing Stress and Embracing Cozy Vibes
With the changing seasons, I’ve noticed my stress and anxiety levels have been a bit all over the place. I know so many of us are feeling similar things—maybe it’s the transition to fall, or just life in general. Books, crafting, and spending time with the fiber arts community help keep me grounded. I’m grateful for these cozy, creative outlets that make the tougher days feel lighter.
